The Box of Uncertainties

Project Four : The Box of Uncertainties – Part 2

The Handloom Textiles constitute a timeless facet of the rich cultural heritage of India.  India is home to 95% of the world’s handlooms. The sector contributes to almost 15% of woven fabric making in the country and further adds to the export revenue.

While talking to people about handloom & fashion Industry clearly states that the Artisans are still facing the issues like corruption and labor exploitation, to the copying of designs.

Question

How can the Awareness, Education & Technology help in building a Digital Bridge in between Indian Artisans & Fashion/ Film Industry to work globally without intermediaries.

Action

This process would require working on a business model that can transfer the power of dealing work to the Artisans instead of wholesalers, retailers, agents, and brokers. This will require a proper financial planning, technology, training modules , educational strategies etc for raising awareness.

After reaching out to many Artisans, I came to know their keen interest towards the idea of globalization. The Artisans do not get enough recognition, wages, and fame in return. Also, pandemic has clouded their future.

An Uncertain idea of creating digital platform to take the handcrafted heritage of Indian art along with their master artisans to global recognition is a hope.

They wanted to know more about the Digital Bridge Development Between Indian Artisans & Film / Fashion Industry for easy access to Fashion Designers, Stylists & Professionals.  I also introduced them to the International labels that are collaborating with Indian Artisans to create a socially responsible business as an initiative to connect Rural Artisans to the Global buyers & the Fashion industry.
